At Harvey and Thomas Orthodontics, we are always excited to meet new patients. We understand that it is natural to feel nervous before doing anything for the first time. That’s why we provide our patients with the best, most comprehensive information available.

Whether you are an adult interested in getting braces — or a parent considering braces for your teen — we hope that this blog provides you with a helpful overview of what to expect during your first appointment with us.

We love transforming people’s smiles, and we can’t wait to help you get the smile of your dreams!

What To Expect From Your First Appointment

During your free consultation, we want to get to know you and your goals for orthodontic care. This is an opportunity for you to meet our team and our doctors, become familiar with our office, receive a thorough oral examination, and discuss your treatment and financing options.

Dr. Harvey and Dr. Thomas devote a significant amount of time to meeting with each new patient to ensure that your questions and concerns are addressed and that you are comfortable with your treatment options.

Introductions

When you arrive for your first appointment, a member of our team will welcome you, and take you on a tour of our office. We are always excited to meet new patients and appreciate you considering us for your orthodontic needs.

Paperwork and Dental History

One of our team members will ask you to fill out paperwork detailing your dental and general health history if you did not complete it before your appointment. This will tell us the last time you saw a dentist, had dental x-rays taken, describe any existing dental issues, and more. Everyone has a unique dental history, and this information will help the orthodontist put together the best treatment plan for your individual needs.

Exam & Photos

During the next portion of your appointment, a team member will take digital X-rays and photos of your teeth and jaw, and the orthodontist will perform an oral exam. This exam and imaging will provide a comprehensive overview of your orthodontic needs. These records also help us catch any issues that may need to be corrected before you begin treatment.

Treatment Plan & Questions

After reviewing your records and completing the examination, Dr. Harvey or Dr. Thomas will put together the best treatment plan for your unique needs. You will learn about the proposed treatment process and length, why it is needed, how much it might cost, and available options. We’ll discuss all the options available to you, from clear aligner treatment to Damon Braces, so that you can choose a treatment option that fits your look and lifestyle.

We want to make sure you have a complete understanding of what to expect from your treatment plan. We encourage you to ask questions, and we will be able to address any concerns you may have.

Insurance and Payment Plan

Once you and Dr. Harvey or Dr. Thomas have agreed upon a treatment plan, a member of our team will review your insurance and discuss the available payment options.

Harvey and Thomas Orthodontics offers flexible, zero-interest financing options and payment plans for any budget. If you’re eligible for orthodontic benefits under your insurance plan, we will gladly file your insurance electronically with your carrier.

Request Appointment

If no dental work is required before treatment can begin, you can request an appointment to have your braces put on at your earliest convenience. Our team will also be happy to answer any last questions you have.
